So God Made a Wedding Photographer- By Dana Brandt
And on the 8th day God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need someone to capture the beauty of a wedding!” So, God made a Wedding Photographer.
God said I need somebody to stay up until dawn editing and perfecting images only to work all day raising a family and running a business, then head to a wedding and stay past midnight to get the exit shot. So, God made a Wedding Photographer.
I need somebody with strong arms. Strong enough to lug 50 pounds of gear, yet steady enough to get a spur of the moment long exposure shot in the dark with a makeshift tripod. Somebody to reassure the bride, coax the flower girl down the aisle, finally arrive at the reception just as hungry as everyone else and have to wait for dinner- until table shots of every guest and relative is complete. So, God made a Wedding Photographer.
God said, “I need somebody that can make an empty parking lot look like the most gorgeous location ever created, handle an overbearing mother-in-law with respect and grace, and wear head to toe black in June during a heatwave and not act miserable or whine about it. And....who, in peak season will have 3 weddings in a weekend and be just as enthusiastic for Sunday’s wedding as for Friday’s. Then, work every night until falling asleep at the computer, determined to make those images the most beautiful photos ever seen by the bride and groom. So, God made a wedding photographer.
God had to have somebody willing to pose a tipsy bridal party in 10 minutes to get the perfect photos just ahead of the rain clouds and stop mid-photo session to re-pose a self conscious bridesmaid- making sure she loves how she looks when she sees the final photos. So, God made a Wedding Photographer.
It had to be somebody that would recognize moments of emotional impact. Someone with vision. Someone who would actually be in tune the vibe of a single day- someone to harness the feeling in the air, and capture it with a tiny black box. Someone that could be trusted in documenting the most important type of history- personal history. Only hoping that long after she is gone, the images she took will remain somewhere- held sacred. And maybe a tiny part of her would live forever.
So, God made a Wedding Photographer.
